Behold it's me and Mauricio Kagel after the fantastic concert he gave 2/17 in L.A.
He was gracious but wouldn't let me use flash; it's his fault if it came out looking like "piss kagel". But he has eye problems. I asked him if it was possible to do a performance and call it "Ludwig Van" if one (group) had learned the lessons to be learned from the DGG recording drawing on their own repertoire and not bothering with all the business in the score (cause the idea of the piece is a-more general than that: the recording is not a realization of the score, even; the score makes great tshirt transfers though btwfyi) and he said "yes, but" with a forboding tilt to his head. So the answer is yes! I mean he did verbalize his head tilt. The gist was yes if you do it right. He's a great conductor it turns out I'm so happy to have seen him conduct a large ensemble piece [photo of the ensemble and description to follow] it was very exciting a musical highlight of my concertgoing life. I was going to wear Romeo Gigli cause I thought it sounded good with "Mauricio Kagel" but when I looked in my closet I thought "Gigli Schmigli"--that Paul Smith would be a much better choicealthough it looks like piss Paul Smith here.
